China’s Shipbuilding Industry Achieves Multiple Breakthroughs in Digital Transformation

Recently, China’s shipbuilding industry has secured multiple achievements in the field of digital transformation. A number of shipbuilding enterprises have released their digital application outcomes and obtained approvals from classification societies, collectively demonstrating that Chinese companies are steadily advancing their “smart and digital transformation” initiatives with remarkable results built on solid foundations.

 

China Merchants Shipbuilding Launches Dual-Carbon Digital Management Platform

Recently, China Merchants Shipbuilding officially rolled out its Dual-Carbon Digital Management Platform.

 

With the in-depth implementation of the “dual carbon” strategy, the decarbonization trend in the international shipping industry has become increasingly clear, and the expectations for mandatory carbon footprint requirements on shipowners have been rising. Against this backdrop, China Merchants Shipbuilding has taken the lead in the shipping sector to obtain two invention patent authorizations related to the carbon footprint of marine products, and has built a dual-carbon digital management platform based on these patents. The platform, along with its carbon monitoring system and models, has passed authoritative verification by Det Norske Veritas (DNV), providing shipping enterprises with a full-chain carbon management solution.

 

CSSC Power Secures L3 Certification for Digital Application in Marine Product Inspection

 

Recently, a certification ceremony for the digital application in marine product inspection was held between CSSC Power (Group) Co., Ltd. and China Classification Society (CCS). CSSC Power has officially become the first enterprise in China’s marine power sector to obtain the CCS L3 certification for digital application in marine product inspection.

 

CCS classifies the digital application levels for marine product inspection from L1 to L5. Among these, the L3 level requires the achievement of four core objectives: “automatic collection of inspection data, automatic judgment of test results, automatic data interaction, and digitalization of production quality control”, serving as a key benchmark for measuring an enterprise’s digital inspection capabilities.

 

This breakthrough was achieved through joint research efforts coordinated by CSSC Power, together with its subsidiaries including Hudong Heavy Machinery, CSSC Mitsui, and CSSC Anqing Diesel Engine. It not only marks that China’s marine main engine product inspection has bid farewell to traditional models and officially entered a new era of digital and intelligent collaborative management, but also highlights the core value of CSSC Power as a “chain leader” in the industrial chain. Notably, in the supporting production links of marine main engines, the enterprise has also adopted Automatic Spring Tray Arrangement Equipment, which realizes the automatic and precise arrangement of spring components for power systems, effectively improving the efficiency of pre-assembly processing and ensuring the consistency of component quality, forming a synergy with the L3-level digital inspection system. By adopting a multi-level cooperation model of “leading subsidiaries by the group, driving the industrial chain by the chain leader, and promoting replication through pilot projects”, CSSC Power has successfully connected upstream and downstream resources in the industrial chain, creating a replicable and implementable pilot demonstration model for the digital transformation of the maritime industry, and providing a China solution for the global maritime industry’s digital transformation.

Ningbo Ocean Shipping’s Vessel Awarded World’s First Digital Inspection Mark

 

A few days ago, “Xin Ming Zhou 106”, a vessel owned by Ningbo Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd., was granted the Data Driven Verification (DDV) additional class notation by China Classification Society, officially becoming the world’s first ship equipped with digital inspection capabilities.

 

Marine digital inspection is a data-driven technology for equipment condition assessment. Based on the expert models and rule engines developed by CCS, this technology realizes functions such as automatic alarm for abnormal conditions of marine equipment, condition judgment, and report generation through real-time collection of operation data from marine electromechanical equipment, significantly enhancing the intelligence level of marine equipment inspection. A ship with the DDV notation means it has the technical conditions to carry out inspections in a digital manner, which can replace or assist traditional manual inspection items to a certain extent, making ship inspection work more flexible and efficient, effectively reducing ship inspection costs, and optimizing ship maintenance plans.

 

CCS Issues Digital Application Certification for Product Inspection to Weichai Heavy Machinery

 

Recently, the certification ceremony for the CCS digital application in marine product inspection was held in Binhai, Weifang, where Weichai Heavy Machinery Co., Ltd. was awarded the certificate. Since the release of CCS’s Guidelines for Digital Application in Marine Product Inspection, Weichai Heavy Machinery has become the first marine engine manufacturer to receive this honor.

 

Weichai Heavy Machinery and CCS established a special working group and cooperated closely, ultimately achieving automatic review of data and documents and automatic issuance of certificates, greatly improving the efficiency of product inspection and certification. CCS stated that Weichai Heavy Machinery is the first engine manufacturer in the industry to fully develop and obtain approval for digital applications in accordance with the new requirements specified in CCS’s Guidelines for Digital Application in Marine Product Inspection, setting an industry benchmark and providing a more solid guarantee for the high-quality development of ships and marine engineering equipment, as well as for shipping safety.
