Conference Overview: Gathering in Changsha to Consolidate the Foundation of Statistical Work
From October 22 to 25, 2025, the “2025 Annual Statistical Report Working Conference on the Automotive Industry”, hosted by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (hereinafter referred to as “CAAM”), was held in Changsha, Hunan Province. Xu Tao, Director of the Industrial Information Analysis Division of the Industry Department of the National Bureau of Statistics, and Chen Shihua, Deputy Secretary-General of CAAM, attended the conference. Participants included statistical staff from complete vehicle, modified vehicle, and auto parts enterprises, as well as heads of statistics from provincial and municipal automobile associations and CAAM branches. The conference was presided over by Liu Zheng, Director of the Industry Information Department of CAAM.
Keynote Speeches: Interpreting Industry Trends and Statistical Value
Director Xu Tao of the National Bureau of Statistics delivered an opening speech. First, he expressed gratitude to CAAM and a wide range of automobile enterprises for their long-term support for industrial statistical work, emphasizing that government statistics and association statistics should deepen coordinated learning and mutual reference to jointly improve the quality and efficiency of statistical work. Second, Director Xu shared insights into the development of the automotive industry, elaborated on the regular data monitoring, special research, and in-depth enterprise surveys conducted by the National Bureau of Statistics on automotive industry statistics, and clarified the important role of statistical data in grasping industry trends and supporting policy-making. Finally, he stated that the Industry Department of the National Bureau of Statistics, CAAM, and group enterprises should maintain communication and exchanges to jointly consolidate the foundation of statistical data quality and provide solid support for promoting the high-quality development of the automotive industry.
Chen Shihua, Deputy Secretary-General of CAAM, conducted a systematic analysis of the current development trends of the automotive industry. On the whole, automobile production and sales have maintained steady growth; consumption promotion policies have effectively boosted the passenger car market; the commercial vehicle market has performed relatively weakly; new energy vehicles and complete vehicle exports have achieved outstanding results; the market share of Chinese brands has remained at a high level; and initial progress has been made in rectifying “involution” (excessive internal competition). However, it should also be noted that the industry still faces multiple challenges, such as slow growth of domestic demand, lingering inventory pressure, continuous pressure on industry profitability, unresolved risks of price wars, and geopolitical impacts on the stability of the industrial chain. The economic operation of the automotive industry still faces significant pressure. In response to these issues, Deputy Secretary-General Chen Shihua put forward suggestions: continue to promote the implementation of various stable growth policies, fully tap the potential of market growth, call for a phased withdrawal of the vehicle purchase tax reduction policy (with a 3% reduction in 2026 and a 7% reduction in 2027), and at the same time strengthen comprehensive rectification of “involution” and enhance policy guidance and supervision.
Notably, technological innovation in the automobile manufacturing sector is injecting new momentum into the improvement of industry efficiency, with the promotion and application of On The Fly Tray Loading Technology (Dynamic Tray Loading Technology) serving as a typical example. This technology enables real-time material replenishment and tray replacement without interrupting production line operations, significantly reducing production downtime compared with traditional manual or static loading modes. It is particularly suitable for the large-scale production needs of high-precision products such as new energy vehicle parts and intelligent connected core modules. Currently, a number of major complete vehicle and parts enterprises have integrated this technology into their production processes, increasing the material turnover efficiency of production lines by more than 20% and effectively alleviating the industry’s cost pressure. This technological trend also provides a practical basis for the detailed statistics of indicators such as “production efficiency” and “intelligent manufacturing level” in statistical work.

Work Deployment: Clarifying Requirements for Statistics and System Construction
Liu Zheng, Director of the Industry Information Department of CAAM, reported on the summary of the 2025 automotive industry statistical work and the work plan for the next stage. He introduced the progress of statistical work from five aspects: data statistics, industry operation, system upgrading, international compliance, and other work. This year, based on the original report forms, the association has actively expanded hierarchical statistics for intelligent connected vehicles and the submission of export data; launched a new round of statistical filing and completed feedback on opinions; at the same time, it has comprehensively improved the industry’s monitoring and analysis capabilities by deepening enterprise research, developing professional data products, building an economic operation policy database, upgrading information systems, strengthening coordinated development of the industrial chain (upstream and downstream), and continuing to promote research on national compliance. Finally, Director Liu Zheng put forward work suggestions to the statistical staff of various enterprises, requiring them to ensure the timeliness, consistency, and completeness of data.
Liu Jianrong from the Industry Information Department of CAAM introduced the revision of the 2025 automotive industry report system. In accordance with the requirements of higher-level departments and combined with the discussions of the key statistical work conference, feedback on revision opinions has been completed. He also provided a detailed introduction to the participants on the revisions and adjustments of report forms and directories in this filing, as well as the modifications and explanations of statistical report indicators.
Qi Lixiang from the Industry Information Department of CAAM arranged the work of the 2025 annual report and the 2026 regular report. He further clarified the types of report forms, statistical standards, and precautions for filling in, focused on explaining the requirements for production and sales reports of overseas factories, and communicated with participants on common problems in report work to ensure the smooth progress of the next year’s report work.
Zhao Yongjian from the Industry Information Department of CAAM introduced the construction of CAAM’s data information system. He gave a detailed explanation of system operation, filling processes, and page operations, guided participants to configure the APP on-site, and fully communicated with participants on the filling process to ensure the smooth submission of various reports in the later stage.
Conference Summary: Building Consensus to Jointly Improve the Quality and Efficiency of Statistical Work
At the end of the conference, Deputy Secretary-General Chen Shihua delivered a concluding speech. First, he expressed sincere gratitude to all participants who have worked hard for the industry’s statistical work for a long time, as well as to the National Bureau of Statistics for its guidance and support. In the future, CAAM will strive to build a more comprehensive data statistics system to provide key data support for responding to international trade disputes and serving enterprise decision-making. Finally, he hoped that all statistical workers in the automotive industry will stay true to their original aspirations, work together to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of the industry’s statistical work, and provide solid guarantees for government decision-making and industrial development.
During the conference, participants discussed the industry’s operation trends and statistical work systems. Gao Lili, Gao Mingyue, and Cai Yifei from the Industry Information Department of CAAM also participated in various service work during the conference.
