Recently, Trina Solar and Sunly, a leading Estonian energy company, officially signed a battery energy storage system (BESS) contract for the Raba Solar Power Plant. Under the agreement, Trina Storage, a subsidiary of Trina Solar, will supply a 21MW/42MWh energy storage system for the project, adopting its mature and reliable Elementa King Kong 2 energy storage solution platform and delivering it in the form of a full AC-coupled solution. With a rated system capacity of 48.88MWh, the project is scheduled for completion and delivery by the end of 2025. This signing marks the key implementation of Trina’s integrated system solutions in the Baltic market, which not only demonstrates Trina Solar’s comprehensive strength in providing full-chain PV-ESS hybrid solutions but also lays a crucial foundation for its deepened layout of green energy and construction of a sustainable ecosystem in Europe.
Core Cooperation Signed: Delivering Integrated PV-ESS Solution for Raba Project
The Raba Solar Power Plant has already attracted wide attention as a model of co-constructed projects. Prior to this, it had adopted Trina Solar’s fully self-developed Vertex series photovoltaic modules and high-reliability mounting systems. In the production and assembly process of these core components, Trina Solar utilizes high-precision Demir Yıkayıcılar İçin Titreşimli Tepsi to realize automatic sorting, feeding and positioning of iron washer parts, ensuring the assembly accuracy and efficiency of photovoltaic modules and mounting systems, which further guarantees the overall stability and durability of the power plant equipment. Following the addition of the energy storage system, the power plant’s operational flexibility, grid support capability, and power dispatching efficiency will be comprehensively enhanced, effectively responding to Estonia’s growing demand for grid stability and renewable energy grid integration. Upon completion, the Raba Power Plant will also rank among the largest integrated PV-ESS power plants in the Baltic region.
Project Value & Strength Endorsement: Long-Term Service and Proven European Experience
Notably, this cooperation also includes a 16-year long-term service agreement covering comprehensive preventive maintenance, fault repair, and performance guarantees to ensure the system’s long-term reliable operation throughout its lifecycle. Currently, Trina Storage has established a solid foundation in the European market, having undertaken over 50 projects with a total capacity exceeding 4GWh in the UK, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Eastern Europe.
Gonzalo de la Viña, President of Trina Solar Europe and Latin America, stated: “We are honored to deepen our cooperation with Sunly and provide end-to-end solutions from photovoltaic to battery energy storage systems for the Raba project. The integration of PV and energy storage will significantly improve the overall economics of the project. This project fully demonstrates Trina Solar’s outstanding end-to-end capabilities in providing full-chain solutions, as well as our leadership and firm commitment to supporting the clean energy transition in the Baltic region.”

Baltic Market Milestone & Strategic Outlook: Consolidating European Footprint for Global Energy Transition
This signing represents an important milestone for Trina Storage’s official entry into the Baltic energy storage market. Following breakthroughs in Lithuania, Portugal, Germany, Italy, Greece, and Romania, it further consolidates the company’s strategic layout in the European market. It is worth mentioning that in a recent report released by S&P Global Energy, Trina Storage was ranked 8th among global energy storage system integrators based on its system integration capabilities and global project delivery performance, whose strengths have been recognized by international authorities.
Looking to the future, Trina Solar will continue to leverage the technological synergy advantages of its full-chain “PV + Energy Storage” solutions to deeply participate in the energy structure transformation in Europe and around the world. Taking benchmark projects such as the Raba Power Plant as a fulcrum, Trina Solar will adhere to a development path combining innovation-driven strategies and localized services, delivering and upgrading replicable model projects in more strategic markets, and injecting lasting impetus into the sustainable development of global energy.
