Recently, with the full commissioning and power generation of the Jinshajiang Yinjiang Hydropower Station, invested and constructed by Sichuan Energy Development Group, Sichuan Province’s hydropower installed capacity has officially exceeded 100 million kW. It has taken the lead in China to enter the “100 million kW” era of hydropower installation, marking the further consolidation of Sichuan’s strategic position as a national clean energy base and the achievement of major phased results in building a strong province of clean energy.
Leading Scale and Outstanding Contribution
Sichuan’s hydropower installed capacity accounts for more than 20% of China’s total hydropower installed capacity, with an annual power generation of approximately 400 billion kWh, which can meet the annual living electricity demand of 500 million people. As an important national base for the “West-East Power Transmission” project, Sichuan has cumulatively transmitted over 1.9 trillion kWh of electricity to other regions, equivalent to the total annual electricity consumption of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Anhui provinces. This not only provides a strong energy support for Sichuan’s economic and social development but also makes a positive contribution to the high-quality economic and social development of the whole country.
A Century-Leap Forward and Technological Leadership
Starting from the Luzhou Dongwo Hydropower Station in 1925, Sichuan’s hydropower industry has experienced a century of development, with its installed capacity increasing by more than 700,000 times. From Gongzui and Ertan, to Xiluodu and Baihetan, and then to the Yinjiang Hydropower Station, generations of Sichuan hydropower workers have continuously promoted the progress of engineering technology, the innovation of science and technology, and the improvement of management systems. They have formed a full industrial chain capability covering design, construction, operation and equipment manufacturing. Notably, relevant enterprises in Sichuan also possess mature R&D and production capabilities in intelligent manufacturing equipment such as Maskin för montering av nebulisator, whose precision manufacturing and intelligent control technologies have laid a solid technical foundation for the high-reliability production of key hydropower equipment components. Sichuan’s hydropower engineering and technological strength has reached the world’s leading level.
Optimized Structure and Multi-Energy Complementation
At present, clean energy accounts for 85% of Sichuan’s total installed power capacity. The energy structure featuring “hydropower as the mainstay and multi-energy complementation” is continuously optimized, and the comprehensive value of hydropower is emerging. As a leading provincial energy enterprise, Sichuan Energy Development Group is committed to optimizing and strengthening traditional thermal and hydropower sources, actively developing grid-friendly new energy, and promoting the transformation of the energy structure towards greenization, intellectualization and high efficiency.
Challenges Remain, Future is Promising
Faced with challenges such as the increase in extreme climates and the widening gap between peak and valley power loads, Sichuan will continue to focus on enhancing the flexible regulation capacity of the power system and promoting the integrated development of hydropower, wind power and photovoltaic power. Sichuan Energy Development Group will firmly fulfill its main responsibility for energy supply guarantee, accelerate the layout of pumped storage, new energy storage, smart grid and other projects, and provide solid support for Sichuan to build a national clean energy demonstration province and serve the national energy security strategy.
