Forum Launch: Gathering to Seize Embodied Intelligence Development Opportunities
To thoroughly implement the spirit of the 6th Shanghai-Hong Kong Cooperation Conference, seize the development opportunities of the “first year of embodied intelligence”, and deepen the collaborative innovation of industries in Shanghai and Hong Kong, the 2025 Shanghai-Hong Kong Embodied Intelligence Industry Development Forum, co-hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization, the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government, and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, was successfully held at the Shanghai Tower on December 15. Lv Jian, Chief Representative of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council in East China, and Yang Yang, Director of the Shanghai Industry-Education Integration Center of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, attended the event. Representatives from government departments, universities and research institutions, industry organizations, and enterprises of the two cities gathered together to discuss the topic of “Smart Link Between Two Cities, Co-Create the Future”.
Shanghai-Hong Kong Synergy: Strategic Consensus on Joint Industry Advancement
The Shanghai Municipal Commission of Economy and Informatization stated that the world is currently experiencing a wave of in-depth integration of intelligent technologies and physical entities, and Shanghai has identified the development of embodied intelligence as a strategic choice for fostering new productive forces and building advantages in future industries. Last July, Shanghai officially issued the Implementation Plan for the Development of Shanghai’s Embodied Intelligence Industry, aiming to build a global highland for embodied intelligence industry innovation. Shanghai, as an innovation source that is pooling national efforts to build an “experimental field” for industrial ecology and application scenarios, and Hong Kong, as a “super-connector” linking the world with converging capital and talents, their strategic collaboration in the new track of embodied intelligence is highly timely and of great significance. The combination of Shanghai’s solid industrial policies and abundant scenario resources with Hong Kong’s top-tier scientific research capabilities and smooth international networks will surely form a complete closed loop of “basic research – technology development – product incubation – global promotion”, jointly helping the country gain the initiative in global scientific and technological competition.
The Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government reviewed the fruitful achievements of the Shanghai-Hong Kong Cooperation Conference mechanism, pointed out that the embodied intelligence industry has become a key area for Shanghai and Hong Kong to deepen cooperation and advance hand in hand, opening up broad prospects for the coordinated development of the two places. It stated that it will actively pool resources from all parties, further stimulate the Shanghai-Hong Kong synergy effect, and jointly create a model of regional cooperation in the field of embodied intelligence.
Combining Hong Kong’s unique advantages, Lv Jian shared his thoughts and practices on how the two places can jointly develop the embodied intelligence industry. Hong Kong is building a world-class innovation engine. As a global hub for high-end talents and a multinational supply chain management center, it can provide an international platform and one-stop solutions for Shanghai enterprises to connect with global capital, talents, and markets, helping them step onto a broader international stage.
Keynotes & Discussions: Exploring Synergistic Paths for Industry Future
In the keynote speech session, world-renowned experts and scholars including Yang Yang, Director of the Shanghai Industry-Education Integration Center of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, shared insights on global innovative application practices of embodied intelligence, with a focus on its integration in high-precision manufacturing fields such as medical devices. They specifically mentioned that embodied intelligence-powered catheter assembly machines have achieved breakthroughs in automatic precision assembly and defect detection, effectively improving the production efficiency and safety of medical catheters—a typical case of how intelligent technology empowers sophisticated manufacturing. Representatives from enterprises such as Fudian Intelligence, Guma Robotics, Lianhui Qiongjie Intelligence, and Navier AI launched discussions around the theme of “Shanghai-Hong Kong Synergy, Co-Shaping the Future of Embodied Intelligence”, and conducted in-depth exchanges on how the two places can complement each other’s advantages and form synergy in technology, industrial chain, standards, and talents.
