Jointly Developed Humanoid Robot PEEK Cycloidal Module Defines a New Standard for Lightweight Design
               Polyether Ether Ketone

Recently, Luming Robot and Fuchun Dyeing & Weaving (Stock Code: 605189) have joined forces to successfully develop the industry’s first revolutionary joint module specifically designed for humanoid robots — the small-sized, large-hollow lightweight joint module. This module directly addresses the core pain points hindering the commercialization of humanoid robots, such as lightweight requirements, torque density, and rotation efficiency, achieving breakthroughs in multiple technologies: it not only delivers industry-leading torque density and weight reduction effects among products of the same size but also applies the industry’s pioneering optimized compound cycloidal tooth profile technology to the PEEK cycloidal reducer, significantly surpassing the rotation efficiency of traditional PEEK gear transmission. This achievement marks a systematic breakthrough in lightweight technology at the integral humanoid robot level, injecting new impetus into technological innovation and industrial upgrading across the entire sector. Furthermore, based on the lightweight joint module co-developed by Luming Robot and Fuchun Dyeing & Weaving, the two parties plan to launch the industry’s first ultra-lightweight humanoid robot equipped with full-body PEEK joint modules and lightweight materials in the near future.

Collaborative Innovation: The Awakening of Lightweight Design

Jointly Released by Luming Robot × Fuchun Dyeing & Weaving

The World’s First Small-Sized, Large-Hollow Lightweight Joint Module

To accelerate product implementation and break performance boundaries, Luming Robot and Fuchun Dyeing & Weaving focused on the extreme structural lightweight and high-performance needs of humanoid robots, jointly developing the small-sized, large-hollow lightweight joint module. With an outer diameter of 54mm and a hollow aperture of 12mm, this module aims to achieve a systematic balance between weight, space, and efficiency, boasting key technical highlights as follows:

Extreme Lightweight Performance: The small-sized, large-hollow joint module fully adopts custom-modified PEEK materials and lightweight aluminum alloy housings. Except for custom bearings, all reducer components are made of PEEK. Taking the launched Model 6024 as an example, compared with traditional metal modules, it reduces weight by 62% and increases torque density by 71%, achieving dual breakthroughs in power and weight.

Hollow and Compact Design: The innovative hollow structure supports internal wiring, freeing up space around the joint and enabling the design of highly integrated, flexible structures for humanoid robots.

Optimized Compound Cycloidal Tooth Profile: The compound cycloidal tooth profile, optimized for transmission accuracy and load-bearing capacity, reduces machining precision requirements while delivering higher rotation efficiency and enhanced durability. Compared with traditional cycloidal gear transmission, it lowers tooth surface contact stress by 10%-15%, improves transmission efficiency by 10%, and significantly extends service life.

High Dynamic Response: By reducing the number of rotating components and lowering rotational inertia, the system’s response speed is greatly improved, endowing the robot with more agile and precise motion control capabilities.

Material Revolution: Breaking Barriers to Stand Out

PEEK Redefines the Performance Boundaries of Robot Joints

The outstanding performance of the small-sized, large-hollow lightweight joint module in extremely limited space fundamentally stems from the in-depth application of cutting-edge materials science. The high-performance custom-modified PEEK material selected by Luming Robot and Fuchun Dyeing & Weaving is the key to achieving “lighter, stronger, and more durable”

performance, with core advantages reflected in four aspects:

Long Service Life: Significantly reduced wear rate;

Sustained Precision: Long-term deformation resistance;

Shock and Noise Reduction: Quieter operation;

Temperature and Corrosion Resistance: Unaffected by extreme environments.

The Luming team and Fuchun Dyeing & Weaving have collaborated closely to develop high-performance custom-modified PEEK materials tailored to specific working conditions, successfully solving the problems of compatibility and uniform dispersion of reinforced fibers. Meanwhile, they have jointly developed specialized high-precision injection molds and molding processes, augmented by the integration of advanced fuse assembly machines for precise component fitting and consistency checks, overcoming the core obstacle of maintaining high consistency and dimensional accuracy in mass-produced PEEK gears, thus laying the foundation for large-scale application.

Focusing on the design of hollow lightweight structures within extremely limited space, the team has successfully created a hollow structure that balances strength and lightweight properties, fundamentally resolving the inherent dilemma of “bulkiness” and “disordered wiring” in traditional joint modules.

Abandoning traditional tooth profiles, the team designed a compound cycloidal tooth profile optimized for both transmission accuracy and load-bearing capacity. This design ensures smoother meshing, more uniform contact stress, and improves the issues of low transmission efficiency and rapid wear in traditional cycloidal reducers.

Driving the Material Revolution

Accelerating the Entry of Humanoid Robots into Households

Households are undoubtedly the most promising application scenario for humanoid robots, and Luming Robot has long been committed to promoting the adoption of humanoid robots in home environments. However, the demands for portability, safety, and energy efficiency in home-use humanoid robots urgently require a material revolution — the application of lightweight and flexible materials is the foundation of this revolution. Based on the small-sized, large-hollow lightweight joint module co-developed by Luming Robot and Fuchun Dyeing & Weaving, the two parties plan to launch the industry’s first ultra-lightweight humanoid robot equipped with full-body PEEK joint modules and lightweight materials in the near future, with an expected weight reduction of over 30%.

This systematic lightweight transformation will significantly enhance the robot’s load capacity and motion agility, extend battery life, and reduce overall energy consumption — paving the way for the widespread application of humanoid robots in complex scenarios such as industrial collaboration, commercial services, and even home companionship from both technical and engineering perspectives.
