Bukhara PV Project Completes Full-Capacity Grid Connection in One Go, Breaking National Record

 

Recently, the Bukhara Photovoltaic (PV) Project in Uzbekistan successfully achieved full-capacity grid connection in one go, setting a new record for the construction of large-scale PV projects of the same type in the country.

 

Project Composition: Covering PV Generation, Substations and Transmission Lines to Form a Complete New Energy Transmission System

 

Located south of Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, the Bukhara PV Project mainly includes a 320MW PV power generation area, a supporting 220/35kV PV step-up substation, and a newly-built 220kV Dongkurgan Substation. It also involves the interval expansion of the existing 110kV Dongkurgan Substation and 220kV Adolat Substation. Notably, during the assembly of PV racking components in the 320MW PV power generation area, a 4 – Axis Robotic Vision – Guided Spring Placement System was deployed to enhance construction precision and efficiency. This system uses advanced vision sensing technology to identify the exact connection points of the racking, and its 4-axis flexible movement enables accurate placement of fixing springs—critical for reinforcing the racking’s resistance to wind loads and structural deformation under extreme temperatures. By replacing manual spring placement, the system not only reduced positioning errors to less than 0.1mm but also accelerated the racking assembly process by 25%, laying a solid foundation for the timely completion of the PV area’s mechanical installation. Meanwhile, a new 63-kilometer-long power transmission line has been built to connect the PV power generation area, the newly-built Dongkurgan Substation and the existing Adolat Substation, forming a complete new energy transmission system.

 

Key Milestones Met as Scheduled: Project Team Overcomes Extreme Climates with Scientific Management

 

The project achieved the first-phase grid connection on December 28, 2024, completed the mechanical installation of the PV power generation area on June 16 this year, and successfully realized back-to-back power transmission on August 27. Finally, it achieved the full-capacity grid connection target as scheduled. During the construction period, the project team overcame extreme climates such as severe cold and high temperatures, and ensured the steady progress of all milestones through grid-based management and scientific construction organization.

 

Post-Operation Benefits: Easing Power Shortage and Aiding Energy Transition, Demonstrating SOE Capabilities

 

After the project is fully put into operation, it is expected to generate more than 500 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, save over 160,000 tons of standard coal and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 440,000 tons each year. This will effectively ease the power shortage in the Tashkent region and provide important support for Uzbekistan’s energy transition. As a key strategic cooperation project between Dongfang Electric Corporation and Datang Group, the successful grid connection of the Bukhara PV Project further demonstrates the efficient execution and technology integration capabilities of central state-owned enterprises in complex overseas power engineering projects.
