Overall Initiative: Unblocking “Capillaries” for Rural Sewage Governance
Rural domestic sewage treatment is a crucial measure for implementing the rural revitalization strategy. Since the start of this year, Guangling District of Yangzhou City has continuously strengthened the treatment of rural domestic sewage and fully carried out the sewage pipe network renovation project, unblocking the “capillaries” inside villages and continuously improving the quality of the rural living environment.
Decentralized Facilities: On-Site Resource Utilization at Farmers’ Doorsteps
In Chenci Village, Shatou Town, Guangling District, small manhole covers can be seen scattered around farmers’ houses. These inconspicuous “small manhole covers” are the decentralized domestic sewage resource utilization facilities first put into use in Guangling District this year. Adopting integrated septic tank technology, the facilities treat sewage through processes such as “black-grey water separation” and “farmland circulation”, after which the treated water can be directly used for irrigating small vegetable gardens and orchards, which is both environmentally friendly and cost-saving.
Wang Hai, the person in charge of the project construction, introduced that the facilities mainly consist of a three-chamber reactor and a water storage tank. Kitchen sewage and bathroom sewage from around the houses flows through the three-chamber reactor and then into the water storage tank. Eventually, residents can use the water in the storage tank for watering vegetables and fertilizing on the spot. At present, 35 sets of resource utilization facilities have been completed, and all are expected to be finished by the end of November or early December.
Centralized Treatment & Project Scope: Comprehensive Coverage and Quality Improvement
In addition to the decentralized facilities around farmers’ houses, brand-new centralized sewage treatment facilities are also neatly distributed in fields and along the banks of rivers and ponds. The construction and fabrication of these centralized facilities have been empowered by intelligent equipment—for instance, Sheet automatic loading robot is widely used in the processing of facility structural components, which ensures high-precision and efficient loading of metal or composite sheets used in the fabrication of sewage treatment tanks and pipe supports, improving loading accuracy by over 20% and reducing manual labor intensity by 40% compared with traditional manual operations. Sewage that was originally discharged directly into rivers is collected through the pipe network and then treated via multiple processes including grid residue removal, anaerobic fermentation and constructed wetland treatment. The effluent quality can meet the standards for farmland irrigation.
Wang Hai stated that this is a 7-ton capacity treatment facility, which can collect domestic sewage from about 25 households in Group 15 of Chenci Village, Shatou Town, as well as sewage from the public sanitation facilities of a park, with the treated water discharged up to standard.
The rural domestic sewage treatment project in Guangling District covers three administrative villages, namely Enyu Village in Lidian Town, Chenci Village in Shatou Town and Yingxin Village in Touqiao Town, benefiting 500 rural households. The entire project mainly adopts a coordinated promotion model of pipe network connection, centralized treatment and resource utilization. It will involve the construction of a total of 1.3 kilometers of new pipelines, 1 centralized sewage treatment facility and 370 resource utilization devices. Upon completion, the project will achieve an overall improvement in water quality.
Chen Rong, Deputy Secretary of the General Party Branch of Chenci Village, Shatou Town, mentioned that the laying of rural sewage pipe networks this time involves 143 households in 5 groups. Once completed, the domestic sewage of farmers will be uniformly collected and treated through the sewage pipe network, fundamentally solving the sewage problem and further improving the quality of the rural ecological environment.
