Recently, a batch of bulk carrier construction projects in China have successfully hit their key milestones, covering multiple innovative dimensions such as green fuels, smart ships and high-efficiency operations, with many of these projects being the first-of-its-kind ship models. The commissioning of these ingeniously designed bulk carriers will continue to lead the global bulk carrier market’s transition towards green and intelligent development, and boost China’s advance from a major shipbuilding nation to a strong shipbuilding power.
China’s First 15,000-ton Methanol Single-fuel Bulk Carrier Completes Sea Trials
Recently, the Innovation 19, China’s first 15,000-ton methanol single-fuel river-sea direct ship for specific routes—constructed by Jiangsu Qinfeng Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., invested in by Wuhan Innovation River-Sea Transportation Co., Ltd., and operated and managed by Zhejiang Chuangxin Shipping Co., Ltd.—has successfully completed all sea trials and returned to the shipyard smoothly on January 9th. The success of this sea trial marks that the ship’s power system, navigation performance and key equipment have all met the design expectations, taking a crucial step for the commercial operation of methanol single-fuel power ships in China.
The Innovation 19 is the lead vessel of China’s first batch of methanol single-fuel power river-sea direct ships, with a total of five ships built in this batch. Its core breakthrough lies in its leading methanol single-fuel power system. As a pioneering demonstration project for methanol single-fuel power ships in China, the ship’s core power system is equipped with the CS8L21M methanol single-fuel main engine developed by the 711 Research Institute of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC). Adopting advanced methanol in-cylinder direct injection technology, it has successfully broken through multiple technical bottlenecks such as high-efficiency clean combustion and corrosion resistance of key components. On the premise of maintaining power performance equivalent to traditional diesel engines, the methanol substitution rate exceeds 90%, and the use of green methanol can achieve a carbon dioxide emission reduction of more than 90%.
The successful operation of this ship also represents a substantive step taken by China’s shipping industry in the market-oriented application of methanol new energy ships, opening a new chapter for the diversified development of green shipping and injecting strong demonstration impetus and industrial confidence into the implementation of the dual carbon goals.
The First 63,500-ton Bulk Carrier Built by Jiangsu Haton Offshore for COSCO Shipping Ocean Delivered
A few days ago, a delivery ceremony was held for the GH PRIDE, the first 63,500 DWT bulk carrier built by Jiangsu Haton Offshore Engineering Co., Ltd. for COSCO Shipping Ocean Shipping Co., Ltd. As the first ultra-handysize ship under COSCO Shipping Ocean, the official commissioning of this vessel marks a milestone step for the fleet structure upgrading and operational capacity expansion of COSCO Shipping Ocean.
As the lead ship of the 63,500 DWT series bulk carriers, the GH PRIDE is also the first new ship delivered and put into operation by COSCO Shipping Ocean at the start of 2026. As a modern bulk carrier integrating safety, high efficiency, low carbon and intelligence, the GH PRIDE has embodied the concept of green development throughout the entire design and construction process. This is not only a vivid practice of COSCO Shipping Ocean in implementing the new development philosophy, the dual carbon goals and the Smart Shipping strategy, but also will provide a replicable demonstration model for the green, low-carbon and intelligent transformation of the shipping industry. It will lead the high-quality development of the industry with benchmark strength and contribute Chinese wisdom and the strength of COSCO Shipping Ocean to the green future of the global shipping industry.

SUMEC Shipbuilding Names Two First-of-its-kind Crown 82 Bulk Carriers for CIDO SHIPPING on the Same Day
Recently, SUMEC Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. held a naming ceremony for two first-of-its-kind Crown 82 series bulk carriers, the Fortune Olive and Fortune Queen, built for CIDO SHIPPING.
The Crown 82 bulk carriers delivered this time are another important achievement of SUMEC Shipbuilding’s self-owned Crown brand. For the 15th Five-Year Plan period, under the correct leadership of China National Machinery Industry Corporation (Sinomach), SUMEC will focus on the demand for characteristic equipment manufacturing, continue to deepen its layout in the medium-sized bulk carrier market, polish the Crown brand, create greater value for the market and customers, promote the dual-driven development of shipbuilding and shipping, and contribute a new force of SUMEC to the construction of a manufacturing power.
The First Two 210,000-ton Ammonia-fueled Bulk Carriers Built by CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding Launched on the Same Day in the New Year
A few days ago, the 56/63 210,000-ton ammonia-fueled bulk carriers built by CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. for Belgium’s CMB.TECH were successfully launched.
The smooth achievement of this launching milestone has sounded the clarion call for CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding’s production campaign in the new year, laying a solid foundation for it to high-quality accomplish the annual production target.
