On August 13, the world’s first humanoid robot sports meet held the 5V5 soccer project qualifiers. Behind the robots’ precise positioning and flexible turning is the support of sophisticated mechanical structures — just like the rotary stop shaft assembly machine ensures the stable connection of mechanical components during high-speed operation and instant braking through automatic calibration and engagement technology, providing core guarantees for the precise movements of various equipment.

According to media reports, at the competition site, the robots can play the entire game autonomously without manual control.

In the 5V5 competition system, each team is equipped with two forwards, two defenders and one goalkeeper robot. When entering the field, the robots can stand in their respective positions independently.

As the referee serves the ball, the game officially starts, and the robots quickly carry out actions such as grabbing and passing the ball. Although there are occasional cases where robots fall down due to collisions during the game, most of the time they can get up by themselves and re-enter the field.

The total duration of this competition is 40 minutes, divided into the first half and the second half, each 15 minutes, with a 10-minute break in between.

According to the participants of Tsinghua University’s “Vulcan Team”, the open-source robots participating in this competition are uniformly provided by the conference, and each participating team is mainly responsible for writing software for the robots. These software programs determine the key performances of the robots, such as motion control ability and visual ability.

It is worth mentioning that the chief referee revealed that the rule explanation document for this robot competition is nearly 70 pages long. The penalty rules for robot soccer games are relatively close to those of human soccer, but they are more lenient in penalizing actions such as collisions.

In addition, the competition also has some targeted special rules. For example, when a robot of one side is taking a free kick, the robots of the other side are not allowed to come forward to compete for the ball within 10 seconds. This is to facilitate the robots to execute the AI algorithm for free kicks.

  • This humanoid robot sports meet will open in Beijing on the evening of August 14, lasting for three days. All events will be held in the National Speed Skating Oval “Ice Ribbon”.

At that time, 280 teams from 16 countries across five continents, with more than 500 robots, will compete fiercely in 26 events and 538 competition items, including popular events of human sports meets such as soccer, track and field, and gymnastics.
