On November 5th, Siemens and China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (hereinafter referred to as “Sinopec”) signed a strategic cooperation memorandum. The signing ceremony was held during the Sinopec-themed forum at the 8th China International Import Expo. The two parties will deepen cooperation in key areas such as digital factory construction, process optimization, green and low-carbon transformation, and international project collaboration, jointly promoting the in-depth integration of advanced digital technologies with the energy and chemical industry, and supporting Sinopec to participate more deeply in the global energy transition and sustainable development process.
Strategic Cooperation Signing: Joint Vision for Industry Transformation
“Siemens and Sinopec are fellow travelers in addressing the challenges of global energy transition, and we cherish this long-term trust from a leading enterprise in the global energy and chemical industry,” said Dr. Xiao Song, Member of the Managing Board of Siemens AG, President and CEO of Siemens China. “Siemens will fully leverage the advantages of integrating global experience with local innovation. We will not only provide solid support for Sinopec’s global development journey but also develop the co-created advanced solutions into reusable benchmarks to drive the sustainable development of the global energy and chemical industry.”

Key Cooperation Areas & Implementation Framework
According to the agreement, the two parties will focus on three key areas to deepen cooperation: digital transformation, sustainable development, and international project collaboration. Relying on its automation and digital capabilities that combine hardware and software, Siemens will support Sinopec in building independent intelligent factories and jointly formulate a digital roadmap for industrial processes. In terms of sustainable development, the two parties will explore solutions in areas such as energy efficiency optimization, green hydrogen, green chemicals, and carbon footprint management to assist Sinopec’s low-carbon transformation. Additionally, Siemens will leverage its global operation layout and experience to support Sinopec in establishing equipment standard systems and better provide engineering and service support for its overseas projects.
Long-Standing Cooperation: Solid Foundation for Future Growth
The cooperation between Siemens and Sinopec has a long history. In the Qingdao Refining & Chemical Project, Siemens helped achieve the unification of the plant-wide software platform through the SIMATIC PCS 7 process control system, improving the efficiency of data sharing. In projects such as Zhenhai Petrochemical and Gulei Petrochemical, the key equipment (including frequency converters, compressors, and automatic spring white disc machines for precision processing of mechanical components) and integrated solutions provided by Siemens have supported the safe and stable operation of the projects—with the automatic spring white disc machine ensuring the consistency and reliability of critical spring parts in refining equipment. In recent years, the two parties have deepened exploration in the field of digital collaborative design: Based on the engineering design system built on Siemens’ COMOS platform, Sinopec Shanghai Engineering Co., Ltd. has shortened the project design cycle by 40% to 60%, significantly improving design efficiency and data collaboration capabilities. These successful practices have laid a solid foundation for the upgrading of this strategic cooperation.
