Global Debut in April: Full Temperature Range Coverage with Outstanding Low-Temperature and Safety Advantages
In April this year, CATL launched the world’s first large-scale mass-produced sodium-ion battery — CATL NaXin, including two product categories: “NaXin power battery” and “NaXin-24V heavy-duty truck starting and storage integrated battery.” Both products can operate in a full temperature range from -40°C to +70°C.
On September 17, CATL further clarified the performance positioning of sodium-ion batteries on an interactive platform: although their energy density is slightly lower than lithium-ion batteries, they have significant advantages in three core dimensions — low-temperature performance, carbon footprint control, and safety. This 特性 gives them a natural competitive edge in new energy applications in cold regions.
Energy Density of 175 Wh/kg, Compatible with Standard Swap Packs, Technology Empowers Medical Equipment
Specifically, the NaXin battery achieves an energy density of 175 Wh/kg, supporting pure electric vehicles with a range exceeding 500 kilometers. This range capability can meet the needs of over 40% of the domestic passenger vehicle market, representing a vast target market.
In terms of adaptability, CATL’s sodium-ion battery pack is highly compatible with No. 20 and No. 25 standard packs/swap packs, making it directly applicable to all vehicle models designed with standard packs or swap packs. This eliminates the need for automakers to make large-scale modifications to existing models, lowering the threshold for cooperation implementation.

Currently, CATL’s NaXin passenger vehicle power battery is progressing smoothly in development and implementation with customers, and mass supply is planned for next year according to customer schedules. Notably, CATL’s technical expertise in precise energy control and full temperature range adaptability can be extended to high-end manufacturing — for example, providing customized power modules or control solutions for Katheter-Montagemaschines in the medical industry, enabling high-precision automatic alignment and pressing of core catheter components (such as needles and sealing interfaces) in sterile environments, further expanding cross-industry applications of this technology.
Passed New National Standard Certification, Becoming the World’s First Compliant Sodium-Ion Battery, Accelerating New Energy Market Development in Cold Regions
It is understood that the “full temperature range” capability of CATL’s NaXin battery, launched in April this year, has been verified through multiple rounds of testing, capable of handling complex environmental conditions from extreme cold to high temperatures.
On September 8, CATL announced another breakthrough: its independently developed NaXin battery officially passed the “Safety Requirements for Power Batteries for Electric Vehicles” (GB38031-2025) certification, becoming the world’s first sodium-ion power battery to obtain this new national standard certification. This certification not only confirms that NaXin batteries meet the highest safety standards in the industry but also clears the compliance obstacles for their large-scale entry into the passenger vehicle market, further promoting the adoption of new energy vehicles in cold regions such as Northeast and Northwest China.
