HarmonyOS Upgrade Completed! China’s First HarmonyOS Smart Water Plant Officially Launched
       HarmonyOS Upgrade Completed

On March 9, Wuzhiba Water Plant — the first smart water plant in western Shenzhen — officially completed its HarmonyOS upgrade and transformation, becoming China’s first HarmonyOS-powered smart water plant. This not only marks a new milestone in the HarmonyOS application for Shenzhen’s water utilities, but also represents a critical step toward the in-depth implementation of the HarmonyOS ecosystem in the water industry.

HarmonyOS Nourishes Life, Benefits Thousands of Households

Located in Songgang Subdistrict, Bao’an District, Shenzhen, Wuzhiba Water Plant has a designed capacity of 300,000 tons per day, making it the first advanced treatment water plant in Bao’an, responsible for supplying water to nearly 700,000 people.Previously, the plant had adopted artificial intelligence, big data, fluid mechanics and other technologies, and deployed 8 types of embodied intelligent robots to achieve full-process intelligent management and control.

Based on this, Bao’an Water Group, following the principle of“Proactive Adoption, Steady Progress, Pilot First, Safety and Reliability”,introduced HarmonyOS PLC control systems, intelligent terminals, B-LINK and other products, breaking down connectivity barriers between systems and equipment, and achieving an inter-generational upgrade featuring interconnected intelligence, independent control, security and trustworthiness, safeguarding the water safety of 700,000 residents with HarmonyOS intelligence.

Digital Intelligence Empowerment with Multiple Highlights

Seamless B-LINK Connection, Interconnected Intelligence

Wuzhiba Water Plant now deploys 8 categories of embodied intelligent robots covering production, testing, inspection, cleaning and other scenarios, supported by intelligent manhole covers, cameras, fire hydrants and other terminal products from more than 10 equipment manufacturers. After the HarmonyOS transformation, full data interconnection and interoperability have been realized for production, robot inspection, water quality monitoring, equipment operation and more. A unified data foundation supports one-time collection, multi-party reuse.

With the “B-Link” function on HarmonyOS mobile terminals, operation and maintenance personnel can quickly establish a secure connection by approaching on-site equipment, view real-time operating parameters and issue tasks, greatly improving daily inspection and emergency response efficiency.

Develop Once, Collaborate Across Multiple Terminals

Previously, the digital twin agent of Wuzhiba Water Plant was limited to high-performance workstations in the central control room due to high 3D rendering computing requirements and heavy system load, resulting in a single application scenario.Leveraging HarmonyOS’ advantage of “develop once, deploy across multiple terminals”, the digital twin application has been adapted and optimized to run seamlessly on lightweight terminals such as mobile phones.

On-site staff can check the water plant’s production process, equipment status and water quality data with a simple “tap”, greatly expanding digital twin application scenarios and effectively improving the convenience and efficiency of operation and maintenance.

Independent & Controllable, Secure & Trustworthy

Taking advantage of HarmonyOS’ core capabilities of independent control, security and trustworthiness, the plant integrates multi-source data including video and sensors to achieve accurate judgment and early warning of risks such as fire and flooding.HarmonyOS-powered inspection robots and drones are introduced to replace manual work in high-risk areas.

Through HarmonyOS PLC and HarmonyOS management platform, production data and visuals of three plants and one station in Songgang area are integrated, realizing unified monitoring and command collaboration across plants and stations. While strictly adhering to cybersecurity bottom lines, the system significantly improves operation, inspection and emergency response speed, providing solid guarantee for the safe and stable operation of the water plant.

First-of-its-Kind Platform Launched, Terminals Deployed at Scale

This transformation introduced for the first time WaterHMOS — China’s first water utility intelligent platform built on open-source HarmonyOS.Relying on HarmonyOS’ distributed architecture and edge-cloud collaboration capabilities, the platform establishes a full-stack domestic water infrastructure, providing unified intelligent support for water supply, drainage, water treatment and other full scenarios.

Based on the platform, the water plant has deployed intelligent manhole cover monitoring equipment and intelligent fire hydrant monitoring equipment.Intelligent manhole covers monitor liquid level, inclination and overflow in real time; fire hydrant sensors detect water pressure, cap angle and valve status. All data is uploaded via the HarmonyOS network in seconds, realizing the shift from passive inspection to active early warning.

Cost Reduction & Efficiency Improvement, Embarking on a New Journey

The HarmonyOS transformation of Wuzhiba Water Plant is not only a technological iteration, but also a systematic reshaping of the water governance model. For the first time, a domestic digital infrastructure has been deeply integrated into the urban water supply system, making “intelligence” not just an ornament, but a core feature flowing in every drop of water.

At present, the penetration rate of artificial intelligence applications in Wuzhiba Water Plant exceeds 90%.Staff in Songgang area plants and stations have been further optimized; 100% full data interconnection has been achieved; operation and maintenance efficiency has increased by more than 30%, and false alarm rate has dropped by 30%.AI algorithm optimization has reduced inspection working hours by 25%, and comprehensive energy consumption in office scenarios has decreased by 10%, achieving a win-win situation of safety, efficiency, energy conservation and cost reduction.

Taking this as a starting point, Bao’an Water Group is accelerating the construction of a full-link integrated management and control system covering “source – network – station – user”, promoting the HarmonyOS ecosystem from single-point demonstration to full-area coverage.

The technical path and operation paradigm accumulated by Wuzhiba Water Plant will become a replicable, learnable and promotable industry benchmark solution, providing a “Shenzhen Model” for the digital transformation of water infrastructure across China.
