MIIT: Strengthen Fund Support for Humanoid Robots

On January 21, Zhang Yunming, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), stated at a press conference that the MIIT will next step up support for humanoid robots through the National Artificial Intelligence Industry Investment Fund. It will establish an open-source community for humanoid robots and issue guidelines for the construction of a comprehensive standardization system for humanoid robots and embodied intelligence to promote the global sharing of innovative achievements.

The MIIT will continue to drive technological innovation and iterative upgrading of humanoid robots, using humanoid robots as a small entry point to boost the development of the large-scale embodied intelligence industry. Efforts will focus on “attacking core technologies” by continuing to organize key research tasks such as the “reveal the list and take the lead” initiative, laying out major national science and technology projects, and enhancing the technical level of large models, integrated joints, computing power chips, and other core components. It will also “ensure safety” by strengthening inspection and testing of humanoid robot product quality, network and data security, and conducting research and management services on relevant scientific and technological ethics.

Shanghai Zhangjiang’s First Automated Production Line for Robot Joints Put into Operation

On January 21, the first automated production line for robot joints developed by Shanghai E-U Intelligent Control Technology Co., Ltd. was put into operation at the Zhangjiang Robot Valley in Shanghai. This will help meet the growing demand for robot joints, reduce their production costs, and accelerate the large-scale mass production of humanoid robots.

E-U Technology is a supplier to Zhiyuan Innovation (Shanghai) Technology Co., Ltd., with a combined annual production capacity of 300,000 robot joints in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, and Shanghai Zhangjiang. The newly launched production line has an initial designed annual capacity of 100,000 joints, which will be upgraded to 150,000 units per year in the future.

Deep Robotics Granted Patent for Quadruped Robot

On January 21, it was announced that Hangzhou Deep Robotics Co., Ltd. has recently been granted a patent for its quadruped robot (Model M20). According to the patent abstract, the design product is intended for use as the body of a quadruped robot, with the design focus on its shape.

Chongqing State-owned Capital Invests in Humanoid Robot Large Model Company

On January 20, industrial and commercial changes were registered for Beijing Zhi Zai Wu Jie Technology Co., Ltd., with its registered capital increased from 1.25 million yuan to approximately 1.3733 million yuan. New shareholders include Chongqing Mingyue Lake Technology Achievement Transformation Venture Capital Fund Partnership (Limited Partnership), Lingxin Qiaoshou (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd., Beijing Koala Kunpeng Technology Growth Fund Partnership (Limited Partnership), and Chongqing Technology Achievement Transformation Equity Investment Fund (Limited Partnership).

In June 2025, Zhi Zai Wu Jie completed a financing round of tens of millions of yuan, led by Lenovo Star, with participation from Z Fund, Yanyuan Venture Capital, and Binfu Capital.

Humanoid Robots Achieve Realistic Lip Movements in Multiple Languages

On January 20, scientists at Columbia University in the United States designed a new framework that enables humanoid robot faces to generate realistic lip movements synchronized with human speech based on audio input. The technology demonstrates strong generalization capabilities, applicable to multiple languages including French, Chinese, and Arabic—even those not included in the training data.

In a paper published in the latest issue of Science Robotics, the research team noted that this advancement represents a significant step toward building robots that can not only perform functional tasks but also engage in human-like communication.

Beijing Establishes First Professional Title for Robotics

On January 19, the Beijing Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau officially issued the Trial Measures for the Evaluation of Professional Titles in the Robotics Field in Beijing, adding a robotics professional title evaluation category to the engineering technology series. This precisely matches the talent evaluation needs of the robotics industry and supports Beijing in building a new highland for the innovative development of the robotics industry.

The Measures will take effect officially in 2026, with the first round of evaluations scheduled to launch in July this year.

Jinan Accelerates Construction of Provincial-level Embodied Intelligence Robot Training Ground

On January 19, the fifth session of the 18th Jinan Municipal People’s Congress opened, and Yu Haitian, Mayor of Jinan, delivered the government work report. The report emphasized the vigorous development of emerging and future industries.

Focusing on landmark emerging industrial chains such as artificial intelligence, integrated circuits, aerospace and low-altitude economy, and new energy equipment, Jinan will vigorously promote the application of new technologies, products, and scenarios to accelerate the large-scale development of emerging industries. In the artificial intelligence sector, it will continue to advance model innovation and application empowerment, accelerate the construction of a provincial-level embodied intelligence robot training ground, support Leju Robotics in building a 5G-A humanoid robot training ground, and cultivate a batch of high-value large models, datasets, and application scenarios, aiming to reach a core industrial scale of 80 billion yuan.

Autonomous Microsurgical Ophthalmic Robot System Successfully Developed

On January 19, a research team led by Researcher Bian Guibin from the National Key Laboratory of Multimodal Artificial Intelligence Systems at the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, successfully developed an autonomous microsurgical ophthalmic robot system and verified its clinical feasibility.

The system can perform autonomous subretinal and intravascular injections across the entire intraocular space, significantly improving the accuracy, safety, and consistency of fundus injections, minimizing iatrogenic damage, and assisting surgeons in focusing more on surgical planning and supervision tasks. Relevant results were recently published in Science Robotics.

Ubtech Robotics Partners with Airbus on Humanoid Robots

On January 18, Airbus and Ubtech Robotics signed a service agreement for humanoid robots. Airbus has procured Ubtech’s latest industrial-grade humanoid robot, Walker S2, for use in its manufacturing plants. The two parties will jointly expand the application and implementation of humanoid robots in aviation manufacturing scenarios in the future.
